Udaipur, February 26,2025 - The inflow from Akodara Dam into the lakes was stopped on Tuesday, February 25,2025. Pichola and Fatehsagar lakes were supposed to be filled up to 11 feet each, but they reached only 10.5 feet and 10.1 feet, respectively. Pichola is now 7 inches short of its full 11-feet capacity, while Fatehsagar is 2.11 feet below its 13-feet limit.
From February 17 to 19, Udaipur hosted the National Conference on Water Management, organized by the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti. State water ministers and officials attended to study the city’s water conservation efforts. It was planned to bring water from Akodara, Alsigarh, and Madri dams. However, only Akodara was used, and even that water release was not enough.
On February 13, when Akodara’s gates were opened, Pichola was at 8.6 feet, and Fatehsagar was at 9 feet. In 13 days, their levels increased by just 1.11 feet and 1.1 feet, respectively. Akodara Dam, which had 54 feet of water, now has only 24 feet left.
Officials say that the city’s drinking water supply from these lakes is stable for now. If needed, dam gates may be opened again in late March.
Lakes are Filled in March
Udaipur lakes are filled by March to ensure they look full for tourists during the Gangaur festival. Another reason is to maintain a steady drinking water supply for the city.
However, if water is added now, some will evaporate due to summer heat. These lakes provide drinking water to about 1.75 lakh people daily.
