Instant PF Withdrawal via UPI Likely from April

EPFO subscribers may no longer need to apply online and file withdrawal claims to withdraw money from their PF accounts

Jan 17, 2026 - Starting April, EPFO subscribers may be able to withdraw money from their Provident Fund (PF)  account immediately through the Unified Payment Interface (UPI). They will no longer need to apply online and file withdrawal claims to withdraw money from their PF accounts.

The Ministry of Labour is working on a new system which will allow members to withdraw from their PF funds and transfer directly into their bank accounts through UPI. It is expected to benefit around eight crore of EPFO members.

It will also develop a system in which a fixed portion of the EPF balance will remain frozen for security, while the remaining amount can be instantly transferred to the subscriber’s bank account via a UPI payment gateway. The transferred amount can then be withdrawn through the bank ATM using a debit card or make payments electronically.

Currently, the EPFO is working on software-related issues to allow for smooth implementation of this project.

With this new facility, EPFO members will be able to clearly see how much of their PF balance is available for withdrawal, making the process faster, more transparent and more convenient.
