An insurance company has been penalised by District Consumer forum for rejecting a claim on two-wheeler on wrong grounds. As reported by Aditi Agrawal of Sector 11, Hiranmagri, her scooty was hit by someone in 2016. Repair bill of the vehicle came around 2150/- which was sent to insurance company for claim.

The insurance company responded to the claim letter saying that the driving license of the policy holder was not valid and claim stands rejected. The company also said that Aditi had a license meant for MCY which was valid only for vehicles with a capacity of 50 CC and less.

 District Consumer forum said that appellant’s license was meant for vehicles without gear as per which bikes more than 50 cc could also be operated. Going forth, the consumer forum issued directives that the insurance company is liable to pay claim of 2,150 rupees. Apart from this the insurance company must pay 3 thousand rupees for mental agony and 2 thousand rupees as court fee borne by the appellant.
