Factors

1. Absence of greenery.

2. Increasing tourist vehicles.

3. Effects of continuous AC usage in hotels.

At the Lake Dialogue held on May 26, 2024, stakeholders convened to discuss the escalating temperatures in the city and potential solutions to mitigate this pressing issue. The event, organized by the Lake Conservation Committee, saw notable figures like Dr. Anil Mehta, Principal of Vidya Bhawan Polytechnic, and former Lake Development Authority member Tej Shankar Paliwal shedding light on the root causes and effects of rising temperatures.

Discussion on Causes

Dr. Anil Mehta emphasized that the persistent rise in temperatures is primarily attributed to environmental factors such as the deforestation of hills, disappearance of small ponds, and diminishing open land. He highlighted the prevalence of asphalt, concrete, and permanent structures across the city, which significantly contribute to heat absorption and retention, unlike open land that naturally absorbs heat. The absence of greenery exacerbates the heat.

Impact of Tourist Vehicles

Tej Shankar Paliwal drew attention to the detrimental impact of increasing tourist vehicles on the city's environment. He pointed out that the influx of vehicles not only adds to air pollution but also raises the overall temperature. Additionally, Paliwal noted the adverse effects of continuous AC usage in hotels, which further escalates the temperature in surrounding areas.

Prior to the discussion, community members actively engaged in voluntary efforts to clean up garbage along the lake shores.
