An International Conference on “Promoting Social Cohesion through Peace Education” will be organized by Lokmanya Tilak Teachers’ Training College in association with National Council of Teachers’ Education (NCTE) from March 25-27, 2011.

The main aim of this conference is to discuss the various dimensions of social cohession and how Peace Education can play a vital role in ensuring social cohesion.

The conference will focus on thinking about some activities, projects, literature which could be helpful in promoting social cohesion, resulting in peace in society.

Prof. M.A. Siddiqui, Chariman NCTE, Prof. O.S. Deval, Advisor NCTE and NCERT, Prof. Sudarshan Iyengar, Vice Chancellor Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Mr. Harmis Tharakan, IPS, Prof. Sandesh Mukhopadhyay, Prof. D.R. Vij, Prof. F.B. Faatak, Prof. Sadgurusharan, Prof. M.A. Khadar, Prof. Gopinath Sharma, Prfo. K.C.S. Jain, Prof. M.P. Sharma and many other well know dignitaries from Education Sector will be a part of this event. Also, Dr. Santosh Bhandari, Dr. Andrew Song, M. Robert, Palash Sharma, Dr. Madhav Adhikari, Mr. Nilkamal Singh, Ms. Avila Kalasti, Linet Akothaviti, Dorin Damas and other international educationists will present their views during the conference.

The thems of the conference are:

1. Concept of social cohesion and its present status in Indian Society in particular and global society in general.
2. Sociological, psychological and political analysis of social conflicts/tensions.
3. Factors detrimental to social cohesion and consequently to peace.
4. Indain philosophical and cultural traditions which advocate peace, tolerance, respect for others way of life or thinking etc.
5. Educational curricular content, projects, activities helpful for promoting social cohesion.
6. Actual action plans, project activities undertaken by some educatioal institutions for promoting social cohesion.

The conference will be organized under the headship of Prof. Divyaprabha Nagar, Vice Chancellor J.R.N. Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University and the guidance of Prof. P.C. Doshi (Dean) and Dr. Shashi Chittora.
