In preliminary investigations, Bhupendra told Police that he had jumped into Fatehsagar to take bath but considering that the incident happened at 8pm in the evening, the story sounds suspicious. Police is investigating the reason behind his jumping into the lake.

Bhupendra works as a cleaner in hotel at Udiapole and stays near the hotel. While it is being speculated that the man was under influence of alcohol, Police has not yet confirmed the same.

About the Rescuer

A daring and successful attempt was made by Sunita Choubisa, who is also a NCC cadet.  Sunita, a 20 year old girl, hails from Aspur and is currently doing her MSc in Mathematics from MLSU.

As per Sunita, she was talking a walk near the Paal entrance and noticed that a large crowd of people were standing on one side of the shore and taking photographs and selfies.  Out of curiosity, she and her friend Mahesh, went towards the shore for a closer look.  Sunita noticed that a man was struggling to keep afloat.  Being a strong swimmer, she immediately jumped in.

The man, she says was semi conscious and not responding to her calls.  She then closed her legs around him and swam backwards to the shore.  The water current was strong but she still managed to get him to shore.  This was when people on the Paal came down to pull the two of them up.  When the man was pulled out, an Ambulance, which was called by the onlookers, came in and took the man to hospital.

Sunita is a recipient of the Rani Laxmi Bai Award which was given to her by Lakshya Raj Singh Mewar, to honor her efforts for another rescue which she had done two years back – that of a lady.
