Iran Claims US Hit Iran Plane Bound for India Aid Mission

Iran alleges a US airstrike targeted a Mahan Air civilian aircraft at Mashhad Airport, reportedly scheduled for a humanitarian mission to India carrying medical aid

March 31, 2026 - On Monday (March 30) Iran claimed that a civilian aircraft operated by Mahan Air was targeted by a US airstrike at Mashhad International Airport (Iran). The aircraft was reportedly scheduled for a humanitarian mission to New Delhi shortly to collect or transport medical supplies and aid.

There is no official confirmation or detailed response from the US about this specific incident.

"Mahan Air aircraft was hit by the US in an airstrike at Mashhad Airport,” said sources from Iran as reported by ANI, adding “the plane was reportedly scheduled to fly to Delhi for humanitarian aid.”

The plane had not left for India but was part of a planned India-linked humanitarian operation. According to the report, it was scheduled to arrive in New Delhi around April 1 to collect medical supplies and other essential aid.

Iranian authorities have called the strike a “war crime” and violation of international law for having hit a humanitarian aid aircraft.

Earlier this month, India had sent its first shipment with humanitarian aid which was delivered to the Iranian Red Crescent Society.
