March 7, 2026 – India has allowed an Iranian ship IRIS Lavan to be “taken in” after it had approached the country to let it dock as the vessel had developed technical issues. This information was revealed by government sources on Friday (March 6).
The request was received on February 28 from the ship which was in the region in connection with the MILAN multilateral naval exercise and the International Fleet Review.
“Days before the IRIS Dena incident south of Sri Lanka, India was approached by Iran to take in the Iranian Ship IRIS Lavan, which was also in the region for the International Fleet Review,” government sources said.
The request was approved by the Indian government on March 1, the day another Iranian vessel IRIS Dena was torpedoed by a US submarine in the Indian Ocean leading to the loss of more than 80 lives.
IRIS Lavan was allowed to dock in Kochi on March 4 and all 183 crew members are currently living in the naval facilities there.
