West Asia War Update Apr 4: Iran Snubs American Demands
April 04, 2026: The attack on Iran by joint US-Israeli forces on Febbruary 28 has entered into its fifth week and continues as Iran's defiance snatches the momentum from the aggressors. Iran has once again snubbed the reconciliation talks offered by the US refused to meet US officials in Islamabad, calling the demands made by the US excessive and unreasonable. Tehran has also snubbed US proposal for a 48-hour ceasefire as per Iran's Fars News Agency. All this, while Donald Trump continuous to voice that US is in discussions with Iran and that "we're doing extremely well in the negotiation".
US Fighter Jet Shot Down
Iran, on April 03 had shot down a two-seater US jet over the Strait of Hormuz. While once pilot hhas been rescued, the other is yet to be found. Iran media had released photos of the tail fin of the grounded fighter jet. US officials later confirmed off record that a F-15E (current cost: USD 100 million) has been shot down and the Pentagon was making all efforts to find the pilot before Iran does. An Iranian businessman has also offered a reward of USD 60,000 to anyone who captures the missing pilot alive. A clue to the location of the incident was shown as near Behbahan in the provice of Khuzestan, 30 miles from the Gulf coast. A social media account supposedly linked to the IRGC posted a picture of the ejector seat, which appeared to be consistent with the type used in the F-15E, which was shot down. Meanwhile another US Air Force Combat plan crashed in the Persian Gulf and its only pilot was rescued.
Iran Counterattacks
Israel has activated its air defence systems once again as missiles hit the Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan areas, east of Tel Aviv as per updates from Al Jazeera. Rockets were also launched by the Hezbollah targetting north Israel, says the Israeli military as per updates from Al Jazeera. Further reports say that the IRGC has initiated its 94th wave of attacks, targetting Israeli industrial and military sites using ballistic missiles and suicidal drones. This operation suggests an operational focus on Israeli army commanders and troops and has upped the ante in the ongoing conflict. The Iranian armed forces has reiterated that if civilian or power infra inside Iran is targetting, the attacks on neighboring countries in the Middle East that are harbouring US infra, will be more intense and crushing, says Iran state media.
Iraq, meanwhile, closed the border crossing at Shalamcheh after Iranian airstrikes on the Iranian side, killed an Iraqi. At least 5 Iraqi citizens were hit in the strike, which happened at a passenger reception area on the Iranian side of the border crossing.
Strait of Hormuz
Experts meanwhile have warned that military action to reopen the SoH will carry significant risks for the region and most likely, will be unsuccessful. US intelligence also suggests that Tehran will not open the Strait very soon, as this is one of the key chokeholds that Iran has over the US. Throttling the Strait of Hormuz will keep raising the oil prices and related pressure on global economy, that will likely add more pressure on the US President to find an end to the aggression that has not gone down well with the US public.
