Israel-US Strike Natanz Nuclear Site Again Amid Eid & Nowruz
Iran marks Eid-ul-Fitr and Nowruz amid escalating war, launching its 70th attack wave as Israel and the US strike Natanz again; more than 1,400 casualties reported
March 21, 2026 - Iran on Saturday (March 21) celebrated a rare and significant overlap of Nowruz (the Persian New Year/spring equinox) and Eid-ul-Fitr with thousands gathered at holy sites while the country remains under the shadow of the ongoing war with Israel and the US. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that he spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to convey Eid and Nowruz greetings, expressing hope that the festive season would bring peace to the region.
Since the war began on February 28, more than 1,400 people are reported to have been killed in Iran. The casualty figures include at least 204 children.
Tehran on Saturday announced the launch of their 70th wave of attacks with missiles and drones directed at Israel and US bases in the Gulf.
The Israel-US coordinated attack targeted Iran’s main nuclear enrichment site Natanz on Saturday (March 21) for the second time since the war began. It was earlier hit in the first week of the war. Several buildings had been then damaged. According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, officials have said no radioactive material has leaked and residents in the vicinity are not at risk.
Meanwhile, Iran has said its defence forces have targeted fuel tanks and refuelling aircraft at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in a drone attack.
Also, Tehran has warned the United Arab Emirates against allowing US to use its bases on the emirate to launch strikes on Iran.
"We warn the United Arab Emirates that if any further aggression originates from its territory against the Iranian islands of Abu Musa and Greater Tunb in the Persian Gulf, Iran's powerful Armed Forces will subject Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE to heavy and crushing strikes," spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari said.
Bahrain claims to have intercepted and destroyed a total of 143 missiles and 242 drones since February 28.
Two waves of drones from Iran hit Kuwait’s Mina al-Ahmadi refinery on Friday morning causing a fire. This refinery is one of the Middle East’s largest facilities and is capable of processing around 730,000 barrels of oil per day.
According to reports, the US is planning on the deployment of an additional 2,200 to 2,500 Marines to the Middle East.
