E-Mitra centers, operational across villages, towns, and cities in Rajasthan, are facing scrutiny due to various issues affecting the public. While these centers have proven beneficial in remote areas, complaints of overcharging have surfaced prominently in urban locations. One of the primary concerns revolves around the financial burden placed on young individuals applying for competitive exams, who must contend with both exam fees and additional charges imposed by E-Mitra operators.

Service Rates and Commission Issues

Investigations into several E-Mitra centers in cities found that the commission rates for operators have stayed the same for the past five years, even though the prices for services have changed. Services like electricity and water bill payments have maintained their commission rates since inception, even as new services have been introduced. This disparity has raised questions about fairness and transparency in fee structures.

Fraudulent Activities

Instances of fraud related to pension payments and other transactions have also come to light from certain E-Mitra kiosks. Vulnerable populations, particularly those with lower levels of education, are often targeted in such scams. Some cases have escalated to police involvement, highlighting the severity of these issues.

Government Response

In response to these challenges, the Information Technology department has begun implementing stricter measures to curb fraudulent activities at E-Mitra centers. These efforts aim to safeguard public trust and ensure that services are delivered efficiently and fairly across the state.
