At RNT Medical College, the badminton court mat has become loose, creating problems for the doctors who use it, especially as they prepare for upcoming inter-college competitions. Questions have arisen about the badminton court’s condition since it was repaired in February 2024, including the installation of a new mat.
Repairs and Seepage Issues
The mat's unevenness, caused by seepage from the municipal public accessibility complex, has led to swelling in several areas. Unfortunately, there are no alternative facilities available for them during the rainy season.
Kanika Gambhir, Assistant Engineer at PWD, explained that experts handled the mat installation, including filling sand underneath it. At that time, there were no seepage issues. However, during the rainy season, seepage water has affected the mat, causing it to swell. The contractor will be asked to address the problems, and the municipal corporation may be involved if needed.
A budget of Rs 88.73 lakh was allocated for the repair of the medical college’s lecture theater, exam building, auditorium, old library, and badminton court. The PWD issued a work order for Rs 61.16 lakh.
MB Hospital Emergency Room Issues
Efforts to keep rainwater out of the MB Hospital emergency room have not worked. A budget of Rs 2.15 crore was set aside to install false ceilings, granite flooring, repair the porch, do interlocking, and paint the area.
Ongoing Construction and Problems
The PWD issued a work order for Rs 1.60 crore on September 14, 2023, with a completion date of March 3, 2024. Despite this, some minor construction work is still ongoing. Repairs have been done in about 15 wards on the emergency room's first floor, as well as in the main operating theater, toilets, and roof. However, the problem of water dripping at the emergency room’s main gate persists. Notably, the gate was closed for about a month due to construction work.
