Jagdish Chowk Splashed with Colours as Udaipur Marks Holi

Holi celebrated in Udaipur with a grand display of colour and culture; administration was on high alert with the festival coinciding with Friday prayers for Muslims

Udaipur, March 15, 2025 - Udaipur celebrated the festival of Holi Dhulandi with great enthusiasm yesterday, March 14. The popular Jagdish Chowk, which has both religious and historical significance and is located in the heart of the city, witnessed  vibrant celebrations as local people and tourists from India and abroad participated in the Festival of Colour.

Holika Dahan was performed the previous evening, March 13, at various locations around the city. The traditional Holika Deepan festival was held in the historic Manak Chowk courtyard of the Udaipur City Palace led by members of the Mewar royal family with great devotion, preserving ancient religious and social traditions.

Yesterday was also an auspicious day for Muslims - being a Friday in the month of Ramadan. Hence, security measures  were increased across the city by the local administration. Additional SP Umesh Ojha said the police were on high alert during the Friday prayers. In each police station area of the city, two sensitive zones were identified. More than 300 CCTV cameras were installed at 130 points in these zones and monitored by the respective police stations. Special instructions were given to the station heads regarding this.

An additional female patrol team was deployed to ensure safety of women during Holi. Apart from this, the strength of the Kalika team was increased to 100 from the original 20. These officers were instructed to take immediate action in cases of harassment of women and young girls.
