Tense atmosphere prevailed at the Central Jail on Sunday  morning when a jail  guard was allegedly attacked  by prisoners during routine check up of the barracks. 

Soon other guards rushed to the barracks and tried to control the situation in which few of the prisoners sustained minor injuries.

Jail superintendent Prita Bhargava confirming the incidence said that it was a small incidence, which began with an argument between a  jail guard and the prisoner on Sunday morning at around 8.30 am.  During routine search of barrack the guard found a mobile phone in custody of the prisoner.

The situation turned violent when the prisoner got annoyed with the guard and tried to stop him from confiscating the phone.  Later other inmates also joined him and they surrounded the guard and tried to attack him.  Hearing the altercation a team of guards rushed to scene and whilst trying to control the situation, had to use force against the instigated lot.

Jail Superintendent clarified that it was a matter of revolt over finding a mobile phone in the barracks while the relatives of the prisoners alleged that the guards beat up inmates in Barrack no. 14 and 16 and had subjected them to a lathi charge.  The picture is expected to clear once the investigation of matter gets over.

It has been a matter of worry now that though the jail inmates are thoroughly frisked all day long and all that goes inside the jail barracks is meticulously checked, then how come the mobile found its way into the barracks.
