Udaipur, February 12, 2025 - Due to increasing traffic pressure, NH-8 between Jaipur and Kishangarh will be widened from six lanes to eight lanes. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is working on a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the expansion.

Five Flyovers to Reduce Travel Time

A total of five flyovers are being built along the 90 km stretch of the highway. Three of them are already completed, and work on the remaining two will start soon. Once finished, these flyovers will help save around 30 minutes for travelers.

Project Approval Process

NHAI Project Director Ajay Arya stated that the preparation of the DPR has begun. After completing the report, it will be sent to the Union Ministry of Road Transport for approval. The work will move forward only after the ministry gives the green signal. The estimated cost of the project is over Rs 1,000 crore.

Why is Expansion Necessary?

The highway is witnessing a rapid increase in traffic. When the six-lane highway was built in 2002-03, it handled 60,000 Passenger Car Units (PCU) per day. It was designed to accommodate future traffic of up to 92,678 PCU per day. However, the current traffic load has exceeded 1.20 lakh PCU, making the expansion to eight lanes essential.
