In a recent incident, a burst pipeline of the Jaisamand water project, vital for Udaipur's water supply, caused significant disruption on the Udaipur-Banswara route. The incident, occurring around 7:00 PM on April 12,2024, near Ratna Hotel, resulted in water gushing out rapidly, reaching heights of about 30 feet and resembling a fountain. Consequently, partial water supply was reported in various parts of Udaipur on Saturday due to the six-hour disruption in supply and pump house closures.
As two private buses and a roadways bus passed by, water entered through open windows, soaking passengers and their belongings. The swift flow halted vehicle movement, including bikes, for nearly half an hour, causing inconvenience to commuters.
Upon receiving information, project manager Sunil Kumar Vishnoi ordered the shutdown of additional pump houses at Jaisamand dam and Daya dam pump house. Employees worked until late repairing the damaged pipeline, concluding around 12:30 AM before restarting the pump houses.
The incident highlights the longstanding issue of leak-prone pipelines, with the Jaisamand pipeline spanning approximately 50-52 kilometers from the lake to Udaipur.
