The Jungle Safari better known as Kalka Mata Sanctuary located at southern banks of Lake Pichola will now be equipped with a boat stand. The decision was taken by District Collector to increase tourist foot fall within safari. He also ordered to construct basic amenities and drinking water facilities.

According to Ashutosh A.T Pednekar, District Collector, Udaipur, “Jungle safari spread over land of around 21 hectares can be evolved as a new tourist spot with rich flora and fauna and home for variety of herbal trees.”

According to Shyamlal Joshi, officer at Forest Department, “Presently, Safari receives just 5 visitors per day, which is below expectations, but required facilities will be installed soon. Facilities include toilets, drinking water and most importantly a Boat Stand as the road route is not very convenient.”

Since the inauguration on 25th May 2012, entry was permitted to public on nominal charges of Rs.10 per person, but it was failing to attract required number of tourists as approach road suffered massive wear and tear.

“Now that we have repaired all the approach roads to safari, expectations are high in terms of foot fall. To make approach more convenient we would be equipping a boat stand on shore of Safari as well as on Pichola Lake” added Pednekar.

Kalka Mata Sanctuary was developed by forest department, which is open every day between 9 am to 5pm for visitors. The Jungle Safari was inaugurated by Beena Kak, Ex Tourist Minister.

The whole forestry is broadly divided into two parts which has a Plant Nursery on 4 hectares, while Jungle Safari on 17 hectares which is further divided into various zones as per availability of herbs and flowers.
