Jyotiraditya Scindia tendered his resignation from the Congress party, making it explicit that this was coming for nearly a year now.  A day later, today, Scindia joined the BJP.

In his resignation letter dated 9 March, he said that he is moving on after being a primary member of the party for 18 years. His letter said "this path is being drawing out over the last year".

In his statement to the media after formally joining the BJP, Jyotiraditya thanked the PM and Amit Shah for inviting him into their family.  He added that the Congress no longer is what it stood for and is living in denial mode.

Following his resignation, the Kamal Nath government has spiralled into a crisis. The Congress had formed a government with 114 MLAs and support from the other parties.  With 20 MLAs now tendering their resignation, the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh seems to be heading for a imminent crash.  The Congress huddled to protect its MLAs and so did the BJP.

The Speaker of the MP Assembly, however, has said that he will speak to the 21 MLAs who have tendered their resignation and then let the course of procedure take over.
