Kaamya Karthikeyan a 16-yr old student of the Navy Children's School in Mumbai, became the youngest female mountaineer to accomplish the mammoth feat of scaling the Seven Summits across seven continents. She scripted history on December 24, after summiting Mt Vincent (Vinson Massif) in Antarctica. She was accompanied be her father, Commander S Karthikeyan, an Officer of the Indian Navy and an accomplished mountaineer himself.
Kaamya is a Class XII student at the Navy school in Mumbai. Before summitting Mt Vincent, Kaamya has scaled Mt. Kilimanjaro (Tanzania, Africa) in October 2017, Mt. Elbrus (Russia, Europe) in June 2018, Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia) in Novemeber 2018, Mt. Aconcagua (Argentina, South America) in February 2020, Mt. Denali (Alaska, North America) in June 2022 and the Mt. Everest (Nepal, Asia) in May.
Kaamya now has her eyes set on accomplishing the Explorer's Grand Slam, which includes reaching the North Pole, South Pole as well as climb the seven summits, viz. Aconcagua, Denali, Everest, Elbrus, Kilimanjaro, Pancak Jaya/Kosciuszko and Vinson. She is also the recipient of the prestigious Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar. In May 2024 when she summitted Mt Everest, she became the youngest Indian and second youngest female mountaineer to summit the world's highest peak from the south side.
