The 400-metre track now awaits IAAF certification; could be a game-changer for youth in tribal regions
Udaipur, July 2, 2025 - An athletics track built at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore has been completed in Maharana Pratap Khelgaon, Udaipur. This 400-metre track includes a total of eight lanes and is fully synthetic, designed according to international standards. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) will now conduct an inspection and testing of the track. If everything is found in order, the track will be registered and certified.
After the IAAF's inspection and certification, the track will be officially handed over to the Sports Council.
The track will then open up for practice for athletes in the region. Additionally, it will also be available to host various State and National-level competitions.
The previous government had sanctioned Rs 7.5 crore for constructing this track after which the Rajasthan State Sports Council issued the tender.
According to officials, the synthetic athletics track consists of three chemical layers: one layer of PU, a second layer of SBR granules and a third layer of EPDM.
The completion of this athletics track in Khelgaon will particularly benefit the tribal-dominated region and local residents who have had only mud tracks to practice on. They will now be able to prepare in accordance with international standards. In addition, athletes and specialised coaches from across the country and around the world will come here, providing local talent with the opportunity to learn new techniques.
