Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve

The first meeting of the expert committee formed by the state government to discuss the Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve took place in Udaipur on Monday, August 12, 2024. It is important to note that the National Tiger Conservation Authority granted in-principle approval for the Kumbhalgarh Tiger Project on August 22, 2023.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Wildlife Warden S. R. Venkateshwar Murthy. Discussions focused on the draft proposal for the core, buffer, and link areas of the proposed tiger reserve.

New Link Areas

In the future, to accommodate tiger movement, the forests of Mount Abu and Pulwari Ki Nal will also be connected to the Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve through the link area.

Relocation to Done Voluntarily

Chief Wildlife Warden Murthy explained that the committee members discussed the relocation of villages in the proposed reserve areas and the link area. He emphasized that any relocation within the core and buffer areas would be voluntary.

No one will be forcibly displaced. Those who choose to move voluntarily will be compensated according to government regulations. The entire tiger reserve area will consist of forest land, with no revenue or other category of land included.

Visit to Tiger Reserve

The government has formed an 11-member expert committee. This committee will visit the proposed tiger reserve area next month. After this visit, they will finalize the core area, critical tiger habitat, buffer, and periphery areas.
