Udaipur, December 30,2024 - The announcement of Kumbhalgarh as the state's sixth tiger reserve may take longer. Officials raised concerns over the expert committee's report during a recent meeting. A meeting was held at the Secretariat in Jaipur. During the meeting, officials pointed out issues with the report prepared by the expert committee. They requested additional information before the proposal could move forward.
The expert committee, formed by the state government, submitted its report on October 30. The report outlined the core area, critical tiger habitat, buffer, and periphery areas for the proposed tiger reserve.
Concerns Raised in the Meeting
During the meeting, questions were raised about the availability of herbivores (prey base) in the proposed reserve. Officials also asked how the food supply for tigers would be maintained. A plan to address the impact of roads connecting Mewar and Marwar regions through the reserve was also requested.
Proposed Areas for the Reserve
The proposed Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve will cover parts of Udaipur, Rajsamand, Pali, Beawar, and Sirohi districts. The state government formed an 11-member expert committee for this purpose.
