Good monsoon showers over the last couple of months have brought Lake Pichola to the brink of overflowing. The lake has reached the level of overflow at Kumhariya Talab (Swaroop Sagar).
Though the monsoon season started off well but the dry spell over the last couple of weeks has led to a considerable reduction in inflow of water into the lakes. Only lake Goverdhan Sagar has overflown this season and lake Pichola is all set to join the club.
According Ashok Babel, Senior Engineer, Irrigation Department, no rainfall was recorded either in city or in catchment areas of water bodies. Hence, the gates at Pichola overflow have not been opened by the department.
We still have a good 15 days of Monsoon season left. With fingers crossed, the city hopes that it gets to witness the majestic view of Fateh Sagar overflow this year as well.
