-FASTag will become mandatory from 15th Feb.

-The change that has been brought regarding FASTag wallet is a big relief for the car, jeep and van owners.

Payments at toll plazas will be accepted only through FASTag from 15th February. People are now in for big relief as NHAI has provided relaxation with respect to FASTag wallet.

Until now it was known that a minimum balance had to be maintained in the FASTag wallet. Going forth, NHAI has made it clear that a minimum balance does not need to be maintained in the wallet. Earlier a minimum balance of rupees 150-200 was required in the FASTag wallet.

NHAI announced that the stipulation of keeping a minimum balance has now been ended. The banks issuing FASTag would not make it mandatory for the owners to keep a minimum balance in the wallet apart from a security deposit.  This relaxation is applicable only for private cars, jeeps and vans. Commercial vehicles would still be required to maintain minimum balance.

The vehicles would be allowed to pass the toll plaza as long as there was no negative balance in their FASTag wallet. This means that if there is less money in the account but it is not negative, the vehicle would be allowed to pass the toll plaza. If the person passing the toll plaza does not recharge their FASTag wallet, the bank can recover the amount from their security deposit.
