Mutilated body of priest found in Udaipur forest in the seventh such leopard attacks in two weeks
Udaipur, September 30, 2024 - In the Badgaon police station area of Udaipur, a leopard attacked and killed a temple priest in Rathodon Ka Guda village of Madar Panchayat. The leopard dragged the priest from the temple, across the road and took him 150 meters away into a maize field in the nearby forest. The animal bit off parts of the priest's neck, one arm and chest.
The priest's mutilated body was found in the forest this morning by local villagers.
The 65-year-old priest, Vishnu Giri used to sleep outside the Hanuman temple which he looked after. There is a water tank near the temple and at around 6:00 am, some villagers came there to fill water. On seeing bloodstains around the temple and on the road, they looked for the priest but could not find him. They then started a search and found his body in the nearby forest.
On receiving the information, the Gogunda police and a Forest Department team rushed to the spot.
The increasing leopard attacks have created fear among the villagers. This is the seventh death in Udaipur in the past couple of weeks due to a leopard attack. There is panic among the villagers who are afraid to go out alone, work in the fields or graze their cattle.
