On July 31,2024, a pair of Asiatic lions, 'Samrat' and 'Sunayna,' reached Udaipur's Sajjangarh Biological Park. They are here for the upcoming Lion Safari.

Samrat and Sunayna are currently in separate cages for a 21-day quarantine period. During this time, their health and behaviour will be closely monitored. After the quarantine, officials will decide when they can be released together into their new habitat.

The Lion Safari at Sajjangarh Biological Park is being constructed by the Zoo Development Trust. It covers an area of 20 hectares and costs Rs 345 lakh. The construction is expected to be completed this month.

Samrat, who is three years and seven months old, and Sunayna, who is three years old, are on the brink of adulthood. Their presence and breeding are expected to increase the lion population in the safari.

In the holding area of the Lion Safari, 10 cages are being built to accommodate the growing lion population. Samrat and Sunayna were selected from over 70 lions at the Sakkarbaug Zoological Park in Junagadh, Gujarat.
