Ratlam Municipal Corporation to get very tough with those who evict their elderly parents from home
October 24, 2024 – The Ratlam Municipal Corporation is preparing to launch the first-of-its-kind effort to lessen the suffering of senior citizens who live at home. According to this rule, the water connection of a house will be cut off if elderly parents are evicted from their residences or are compelled to move into an old age home by the children. Transfers of property names will also be not allowed. Even a name transfer previously facilitated by an elderly family member will be cancelled. The aim of this plan is to ensure that the elderly are not deprived of their homes.
This initiative will take off in November 2024, making Ratlam the first corporation in the country to undertake such a project. If the programme proves successful, it will be implemented throughout Madhya Pradesh.
It has been approved as a pilot project by the state government. In Ujjain, Mayor Prahlad Patel discussed the programme with Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav. A proposal has been created by the municipal corporation and will be presented at the MIC meeting before Diwali.
It is said that the idea for this initiative came up among some officials after observing the three old age homes in the city, which currently house more than 200 elderly individuals who have been evicted from their homes by their children.
