The Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority has put forth a plan amounting to Rs 33,000 crores aimed at bringing water from the Mahi Basin to the Mewar-Vagad region. This plan involves the construction of two additional dams on Beneshwar Dham and two on the Anas River.
The proposal also includes the necessity to review the agreement with Gujarat regarding the Mahi Dam, which has remained inactive for over 23 years since its inception in 1966. The finalization of this agreement is deemed crucial for the successful implementation of the water transfer project.
Highlighting the urgency of the situation, experts have emphasized the need to address the water scarcity issues faced by the population of Udaipur and Banswara divisions, comprising approximately one and a half crore people. The blueprint suggests routing water from the Mahi Dam to various areas, including Badgaon, Jakham, Jaisalmer, Vallabhnagar, Nandsamand, and Matru Kundia.
Ghanendra Singh Saroha, a strategist, has advocated for the inclusion of specific areas in the plan during recent discussions with Vinod Kumar Choudhary, Chief Engineer of the Rajasthan River Basin and Water Resources Planning Authority, conducted during a tour of the Udaipur-Banswara region.
