Mansi Wakal Dam Opens Gates Ahead of Monsoon Season

The dam supplies water to 52 villages in the Udaipur and Jhadol regions under the drinking water scheme

The gates of the Mansi Wakal dam, located in Gorana village, were opened on Wednesday, May 22,2024, just before the onset of the pre-monsoon season. This action was taken to manage water levels in anticipation of increased rainfall. 

Mansi Wakal dam is an important source of water for Udaipur. It is a dam on river Mansi in Udaipur district. The dam supplies water to 52 villages in the Udaipur and Jhadol regions under the drinking water scheme. 

Water Storage Capacity

The reservoir created by the dam has a capacity of approximately 24.4 million cubic meters of water. The Mansi Wakal dam have a water storage capacity of 581.20 meters, ensuring sufficient water supply for the surrounding areas. The dam's water level stayed at 577.80 meters after the gate was opened on Wednesday.

The three gates of the dam were opened and closed systematically, with intervals of 1-1 inches for 1 minutes, respectively. Despite the controlled release, the water level of the dam remained stable.

Prior to opening the gates, a cautionary warning was given to residents of nearby villages, including Gorana, Changla, Kherwara and Jhadol. They were advised to stay vigilant due to the expected increase in water flow.
