Decision to resume manual centre operations in Udaipur until further notice taken under request of Udaipur Transport Organisation
Udaipur, April 8, 2025 - The Transport Department has issued orders to temporarily resume manual fitness inspections in Udaipur. This was following the submission of a memorandum by a delegation of the Udaipur Transport Organisation which met District Transport Officer (DTO) Nitin Bohra yesterday, April 7, to discuss the problems arising out of shutting down manual fitness inspection centres.
It may be noted that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had suspended manual fitness inspections for vehicles on April 1. As a result, for the past few days there has been confusion regarding vehicle fitness certificates.
The Udaipur Transport Organisation delegation was represented by former legal advisor Narendra Singh Shekhawat, newly-elected General Secretary Manohar Singh Rathore, Treasurer Jagdish Panda, former president Shambhu Jain, Bhairu Singh Sarangdevot and other members. They requested an immediate solution to the problems faced by vehicle owners and urged that temporary relief be provided to them.
The DTO shared the delegation’s concerns with the relevant authorities. Following, this, a decision was taken to again operate manual vehicle fitness inspections but temporarily and until further notice.
Earlier, under the direction of the Ministry of Transport, four fitness test centres operating in the city were closed because of which vehicle fitness was not carried out for the past week. There are only two automatic fitness centres in the State – located in Jaipur and Kishangarh in the State. All other locations had been conducting manual fitness inspections.
Owing to the closure of manual fitness centres, around 15,000 vehicles have been without fitness certificates in the past week. According to reports, vehicles without fitness certificates are being fined, leading to increased difficulties for vehicle owners and transport operators.
