250 people were evacuated and 7 people were injured when a massive fire broke out at a residential building in the Al Nahda area in Sharjah on 5 May.
According the Khaleej Times, the injured were treated on the spot while 5 others were rushed to hospital as they complaned of suffocation. The fire erupted on the 10th floor of Abbco tower, behing Sahara Mall at 9pm, as per Civil Defence team in Sharjah. The cause of the fire that erupted next to the Taj Bangalore restaurant is yet to be ascertained.
Cars were damaged a debris blew out of the 49 floor building. Quick action by the Sharjah Civil Defence ensured that the families were evacuated safely from this building as well as adjacent buildings. The building comprises of 38 residential floors, 2 service floors and a nine level car parking.
