Menar Set to Develop as Tourist Hub
The State Government had announced plans in the 2025-26 Budget to develop Menar as a rural tourism destination
Udaipur, April 8, 2025 - The proposed project by the Tourism Department in Menar to develop the area as a tourist destination is moving forward as part of the government initiative to promote rural tourism. The department has appointed the Public Works Department (PWD) as the agency to carry out development works. PWD officials will conduct a site inspection and, based on this, identify the infrastructure works related to tourism. They will then prepare a detailed proposal and design and send a report to the Directorate of Tourism by April 20.
Before preparing the report, suggestions are being sought from local villagers, elected representatives and the administration regarding the project. Development works will be carried out based on these suggestions.
Two years ago, Menar was declared a World Village, and since then, the number of domestic and international tourists visiting the area has increased. Menar is known to be a popular birdwatching destination. During the tourism season, many people come to Menar which is known as a birdwatcher’s paradise and a major attraction for nature enthusiasts. The area has diverse and exotic birdlife spread around its picturesque Menar Lake. The winter season is idea time for bird-watching as many migratory birds flock to Menar's lakes and wetlands.
The State Government had announced plans in the 2025-26 Budget to develop Menar as a rural tourism destination. A proposal to designate Menar as a Ramsar site has also been sent to the UN. Additionally, Udaipur has already been granted the status of a Wetland City and Menar also been declared a Wetland.
