Udaipur, November 27, 2024. A delegation led by Balu Singh Kanawat, president of the Mewar Kshatriya Mahasabha, met with Udaipur District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal and District Superintendent of Police (SP) Yogesh Goyal yesterday at around 4:00 pm at the Collector's office. It demanded that Maharana Vishvaraj Singh Mewar be allowed to visit the Dhuni Mata Temple located within Udaipur City Palace and the Eklingji Temple to perform the rituals necessary following his anointment on November 25.

Yashvardhan Ranawat, general secretary of the Mahasabha, said this issue was not related merely to the Mewar Kshatriya community but also linked to the religious, cultural and traditional sentiments of the entire society.

The Mahasabha cautioned that if this demand was not promptly met, social and religious unrest could escalate. The Mahasabha urged the State Government to give utmost priority to this sensitive matter and resolve it swiftly.

The Collector and SP assured the delegation that prompt action would be taken in the matter. A copy of the letter addressed to the Chief Minister of Rajasthan was also marked to the Collector, SP, Police Inspector General and the Divisional Commissioner.

Also part of the delegation were members representing the seven districts of Mewar and Rajasthan, including Chandravir Singh Kareliya, Lakshman Singh Jhala, Jitendra Singh Maayda, Mahendra Singh Pakhand, Ram Singh Kheda, Shivdan Singh Devda and Hari Singh Devda.

Meanwhile, the dispute between two factions of the former royal family of Mewar remained unresolved yesterday. The faction led by Vishvaraj Singh Mewar is insisting on visiting the Dhuni Mata temple while Lakshraj Singh Mewar has firmly refused to allow it. Both sides expressed their views to the media. Vishvaraj Singh Mewar’s faction said that owing to the incompetence of the administration, they are unable to fulfill their religious obligations. On the other hand, Lakshraj Singh Mewar held a press conference at night saying the country is run by a Constitution and not by a crowd.

The police have filed two separate FIRs in the stone-pelting incident on the night of November 25. One case involves 3,000 unidentified individuals, while the other involves 300 people. One of the cases is being investigated by the SHO of Ghantaghar Police Station while the investigation of the second case has been handed over to the Hathipol Police Station.

CCTV footage and video recordings have been obtained by the police to help identify the individuals involved. Barricades have been set up in the City Palace area to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incident.
