2 Microlight Aircrafts have reached Udaipur Airport. NCC students will be given training for flying these hi-tech aircrafts from next year.

In 2013 training for flying Microlight Aircraft had been stopped because of technical factors. After 5 years i.e. in 2018, 6 RAJ NCC Air wing students will be trained on Microlight Aircrafts. The training is to begin in the last week of January 2018. Commanding Officer Wing Commander PA Ayyar will impart training to the NCC students. Around 950 students will get the opportunity to fly the Microlight once each under the Junior Division Course. For the Senior Division Course, 250 cadets will fly for one hour per year.

Cadets with a good performance and interest will be imparted more training based on their calibre. Even the old aircraft is back in station after repair and maintenance. With this, NCC Air wing now has 3 Microlight Aircrafts.

The Microlight Aircrafts have been manufactured in Slovenia. From Slovenia, they were brought to Jodhpur Air Force Station in containers. After the aircrafts were assembled, Captain Ramchandra flew them to Udaipur. All these Microlight Aircrafts are now in Dabok Airport hangar.

Specifications of Microlight Aircrafts:

  • 80 HP engine Speed 246 km/hr
  • Covers a distance of 500 km in 3 hours
  • Can fly up to 10000 feet in sky
  • Width 11 metres, length 7 metres and height 2 metres
  • 2 seater
  • Has ballistic parachute

Udaipur, Jodhpur and Kota have these Microlight Aircrafts now. Jaipur is yet to get one. Ballistic parachute is the biggest advantage of this aircraft. In case of any technical fault in the aircraft, the ballistic parachute helps it land smoothly. This means that it does not crash. The pilot need not jump out of this Microlight Aircraft.

NCC has bought 110 Pipistrel SW80 Aircrafts on national level which will be known as Garud.
