In a significant development, Union Minister of Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari, announced the introduction of train-like electric buses between Jaipur and Delhi, promising passengers flight-like facilities at reduced fares. This announcement came during the foundation stone laying ceremony of 17 road projects in Rajasthan, totaling nearly Rs 2,500 crore, held at Rupi Resort Ground in Dabok, Udaipur.
Gadkari emphasized the importance of leveraging innovative solutions to enhance public transportation infrastructure while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions. He also suggested the construction of a river port in Udaipur, capitalizing on the city's abundant lakes, during discussions with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
Gadkari revealed that the inspiration for this innovative transportation solution came from his visit to Prague, where he witnessed electric buses operating on cables above the road. He disclosed plans to connect the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to Jaipur, transforming it into an electric highway, paving the way for the introduction of electric buses between the two cities.
The proposed electric buses will consist of a set of three interconnected coaches, resembling a train. These buses will boast amenities akin to those found in airplanes, including a business-class section offering refreshments such as tea and snacks. Remarkably, the fares for this service are anticipated to be 30% lower than those of conventional diesel buses.
