On Friday, August 23, 2024, staff at Mohanlal Sukhadia University who work under the Self-Financed Scheme (SFS) went on strike. They are protesting against the rumors that the SFS might end and new staff could be hired through a placement agency. They are also worried about not getting their August salary because their future with the university is uncertain. The strike caused problems at the university.

Narayan Lal Salvi, President of the Mohanlal Sukhadia University Employees Union, criticized the university's plan to introduce a contract system for staff. He believes this move is not in the employees best interest. Salvi suggested that if the university wants to end the current SFS system, they should follow state regulations for hiring staff on contracts. He warned that a contract system might lead to exploitation of employees and increased corruption.

After protesting until noon, the employees submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor. Their strike affected several university functions, including admission applications, counselling, and exam arrangements. The employees have announced a warning of another half-day strike on Saturday. They also threatened an indefinite strike starting August 27,2024 if their demands are not met.

In their memorandum, the employees demanded the issuance of orders for the payment of August's salary. They also requested that if the SFS system is abolished, future appointments be made according to state regulations, rather than through a placement agency.
