On January 30, 2023, Oreva Group Company Ajanta cooperated with the Gujarat High Court's order to determine the amount of compensation to be paid to the relatives of the 135 people killed in the collapse of the Morbi suspension footbridge. The British-era structure's maintenance and operation contractor, clockmaker Ajanta, recently acknowledged in court that it had committed certain errors that contributed to the bridge's collapse on October 30, 2022, last year, when it was under its control.

The company was asked to deposit with the state government the complete amount of compensation that will need to be given out to victims relatives by the bench of Chief Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Ashutosh Shastri.

Ajanta's counsel Nirupam Nanavati acknowledged that paying out compensation to the families wouldn't free the company of the existing obligations set down by the court. The counsel further disclosed to the court that 11 compensation applications had been submitted to the district consumer complaints .

The Morbi royal family will erect a monument in honor of the 135 people who died in the suspension footbridge collapse last year. The planned location is close to the monument remembering the hundreds of people killed when the Machchhu Dam broke in 1979. The officials informed that the architecture is yet to be decided.
