Life of a premature baby girl born in Ahmedabad was saved by transporting mother’s milk from a mother milk bank in Udaipur. Special permission was granted by Rajasthan state government for this.

As per details received, wife of Devendra Jain, registrar of Sai Tirupathi University, Udaipur delivered a one and a half month premature daughter in Ahmedabad. The baby was weighing less than 850 gms at time of birth.

Since the baby was born premature, mother was unable to breast feed the baby as she was not lactating. The baby had to be breastfed for her to gain weight. In absence of this, the newborn did not gain enough weight even after two months and weighed 1360gms.

Doctors treating her said that she had to be fed with mother’s milk. For this Devendra contactd Divya Mother Milk in Udaipur. Dr B.L.Meghwal of Divya Mother Milk said that even though he wanted to help Devendra, he could not as they could not transfer milk outside Rajasthan.

Special permission in this case was then obtained from State Government on humanitarian grounds. Permission has been granted to provide milk for 3 months. Milk is now being transported via road to Ahmedabad. It is reported that the baby has started gaining weight after consumption of mother’s milk.
