Mumbai: Andheri Railway Station Post Office Becomes First Jan Sewa Connect Post Office in Maharashtra

Mumbai, May 9, 2026: The historic Andheri Railway Station (RS) Post Office in Mumbai, became the first in Maharashtra and second post office in India to become operational under India Posts' Jan Sewa Connect initiative. The first of such was inaugurated in Delhi's Nehru Place. The inauguration was done by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on May 8. This Post Office was established in 1932-33 and after its upgradation, has become the first in Maharashtra under this initiative.

What is Jan Sewa Connect

This is a part of the Department of Posts' initiative to transform tradiitonal post offices into digitally empowered customer centric hubs. There are 40 Post Offices across 17 States that have been identified for the pilot project (Proof of Concept) under this initiative. These upgraded facilities will feature:

  • Improved customer amenities
  • Digital integration and smart service delivery systems
  • Modern infrastructure and enhanced accessibility

On successful completion of the pilot, over 2000 Post Offices across India will be transformed.

With a network of more than 1.65 lakh post offices, India Post continues to play a vital role in financial inclusion and public service delivery across the country. The Department recorded a 16% growth in Gross Postal Revenue during 2025-26, reflecting the impact of its ongoing transformation initiatives.
