Churu, Tonk and Hanumangarh districts top list while Jaipur, Barmer, Udaipur are at the bottom
Udaipur, October 8, 2024 - During the National Nutrition Month-2024, Rajasthan's outstanding performance earned it the fourth position in the country. The campaign, spanning September 1 to 30, was dedicated to conducting activities to enhance the health and nutrition of women and children. Maharashtra claimed the top spot, with Bihar falling in second place and Chhattisgarh third.
Mahendra Soni, Secretary of the Department of Women and Child Development, announced this after the final results of the Jan Andolan Dashboard for the National Nutrition Month were released. Rajasthan recorded 1 crore, 14 lakh, 69 thousand, 191 entries of activities on the dashboard. In comparison, Maharashtra had 2 crore, 45 lakh, 80 thousand, 897 entries, Bihar 1 crore, 52 lakh, 86 thousand, 412 entries and Chhattisgarh 1 crore, 46 lakh, 95 thousand, 75 entries.
According to Soni, Churu, Tonk, and Hanumangarh districts of Rajasthan ranked first, second, and third respectively. Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Jaisalmer, Sikar, Baran, Jhunjhunu, Bundi, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Pali, Bhilwara, Kota, and Dausa also performed well. However, some districts like Jaipur, Karauli, Barmer, Banswara, Udaipur, Nagaur, Sirohi, Bharatpur, Pratapgarh, Dholpur, Alwar, Dungarpur, Jalore, Sawai Madhopur, Rajsamand and Chittorgarh ranked at the bottom.
The theme for 2024 was Beyond the Table, which encourages people to consider how good nutrition can help the environment and their health.
National Nutrition Month is an annual campaign that is held in in March. Its aim is to promote healthy eating habits and physical activity and making informed food choices. It first started in 1973 as National Nutrition Week and from 1980 it became a month-long event. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (the Academy) sponsors the event with the goal to raise awareness about the importance of nutrition and to recognize Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs).
