"Modi of Tamil Nadu": Maharashtra Gov Radhakrishnan is NDA Candidate for Vice President of India
The candidature was announced at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting on Sunday, August 17, 2025
New Delhi, Aug 17, 2025: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has announced the name of Chandrapuram Ponnuswamy Radhakrishnan as the NDA candidate for the post of Vice President of India. The decision was taken at a BJP Parliamentary Board meeting held on Sunday Aug 17 2025, which was called to finalise the National Democratic Alliance's choice for the post of Vice President. The post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankar's dramatic resignation from the chair of Vice President on July 21 2025.
About CP Radhakrishnan
Currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra since July 31, 2024, CP Radhakrishnan was born on October 20, 1957 is an ex RSS, Jan Sangh and BJP member, having being elected to the Lok Sabha twice from Coimbatore. He has also served as the Governor of Jharkhand and Telangana (addl charge) and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry (addl charge). Radharishnan has also been at the helm of BJP in Tamil Nadu. He has often been called the Modi of Tamil Nadu.
Radhakrishnan addressed the 58th session of the UNGA in 2003 and was also a member of the parliamentary delegation to the UN in 2004 and Taiwan in 2014.
