The Tourism and Urban Infrastructure Sub-Committee of the Udaipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) held a meeting on September 2,2024 at a hotel in Paras Tiraha. In the meeting development of new tourism centers in Udaipur was a key topic of discussion.
Committee President Mangilal Lunawat highlighted the need for new tourism centers to ease the pressure on popular spots like Fateh Sagar and Pichola. This would help distribute tourists more evenly across the city.
The committee suggested upgrading Udaipur Airport to international status and improving its cargo facilities. They planned to talk with airline officials through Ashok Joshi to boost the airport's cargo capabilities. There was also a discussion about raising the GST exemption limit for hotel room rents from Rs 7,500/- to Rs 18,500/-. The committee suggested adjusting GST rates for restaurants and allowing input tax credit.
For hotels in the MSME category, the committee proposed increasing the limit for groundwater extraction from 10,000 liters per day to 20,000 liters per day. There were also plans to organize the Great Indian Trade Bazaar in Udaipur, similar to the one in Jaipur.
Lastly, the committee decided to engage with officials from the concerned departments to find a solution for hotels already established in eco-sensitive zones.
