Udaipur, March 28, 2025 - Despite getting a new look, Nehru Garden, located in the middle of Fateh Sagar Lake, is still not open to tourists. The garden has been closed for more than two years and UDA has been trying to lease out the garden for the past two months. However, the tender process has been delayed. Since taking over from the Municipal Corporation, UDA has spent around Rs 7.47 crore on renovating the garden.
Several improvements have been made to Nehru Garden to give it a heritage look. The surrounding walls were strengthened, and the entire garden was renovated. Electrical work and gardening were also completed to enhance its beauty. A Light and Sound Show and a Musical Fountain were also added at a high cost. Over time, it fell into neglect due to conflicts between different government departments.
Garden closed for maintenance since 2023
The garden was closed for maintenance on February 19, 2023, and has not reopened since. Though Fateh Sagar Lake is under UDA, Nehru Garden was earlier owned by the Municipal Corporation. Meanwhile, Deendayal Park at Doodh Talai was under the Corporation’s control. Both departments wanted to exchange these gardens, but the process took too long, leading to further damage.
