The Nehru Garden, a beautiful island located in the middle of Fateh Sagar Lake, is expected to operate under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. This decision comes after the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) received approval from the state government. This will be the first PPP project in the state where the private company will invest all the capital needed.

UMC Transferred Project to UIT

In February 2021, the Udaipur Municipal Corporation transferred Nehru Garden to the Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) due to lack of maintenance. The garden has remained closed for over a year and a half because of ongoing renovation work.

UDA Spent Money for Renovation

UDA has already spent over Rs 3 crore on civil work for the garden. Last month, they invited proposals from private firms for its management. However, fewer revenue proposals were received in the first round. UDA officials have since conducted negotiations and sent the finalized proposals to the Urban Development Department for approval.

According to UDA, around 1,250 tourists visit Fateh Sagar daily. It is expected that most of these tourists will also visit Nehru Garden. If the number of visitors exceeds this, the company managing the garden will pay an additional fee to UDA.

To streamline tourist bookings, UDA will introduce a mobile app to monitor the operations of Nehru Garden. The garden will be open daily from 9:30 AM for 12 hours. The entry fee will be Rs 250/-, and after sunset, an additional Rs 50/- will be charged, making the total Rs 300/-. For children, the entry fee will be Rs 175/-.
