New Cooperative Policy to Triple Sector’s GDP Contribution: Amit Shah
July 25, 2025 - Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Thursday July 24 unveiled the National Cooperative Policy 2025, calling it a historic step toward realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sahkar Se Samriddhi (Prosperity through Cooperation) and achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
On this occasion, Union Ministers of State of Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Murlidhar Mohol, Cooperation Secretary Dr Ashish Kumar Bhutani, former Union Minister and chairman of drafting committee of new Cooperation Policy, Suresh Prabhu and other dignitaries were present.
Shah said that under this new policy, the contribution of the Cooperative sector to the GDP will be tripled by 2034, with a target of reaching 500 million active members and creating employment opportunities for the youth.
During the launch of the policy, the Cooperation Minister said, “In 2002, the then government had brought in the cooperative policy for the first time. It was the BJP government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Today, in 2025, the new policy has also been brought by the Narendra Modi-led BJP government. PM Modi has set a goal of making India the third-largest economy in the world by 2027. India also holds responsibility of inclusive growth for 1.4 billion citizens. This is why, after 75 years of Independence, the cooperative ministry was set up by the PM”.

- Expansion of Cooperative into new sectors like tourism, taxi services, insurance, and green energy
- A Cooperative society in every village
- Sahkar Taxi to be launched by the end of this year with direct profit going to the drivers
- Target to make 50 crore citizens active members of Cooperative
- Work completed on setting up 45,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS)
