False Toll Deductions

Udaipur, March 4, 2025 - Many vehicle owners have complained about money being deducted from their FASTag wallets even when their cars were parked or they had not passed through a toll plaza. This issue has caused frustration among users.

Officials say that these wrong deductions happen because toll operators enter the wrong vehicle numbers. This can happen if the FASTag is unreadable or if someone carries the tag in their wallet instead of sticking it on their vehicle.

NHAI Takes Strict Action

To stop these errors, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has fined toll operators in 250 cases. The Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), which handles toll management, is now imposing a heavy penalty of Rs 1 lakh per violation.

Cases Have Dropped by 70%

Due to this strict penalty, false deductions have reduced by nearly 70%. Now, only about 50 complaints are reported every month, compared to 30 crore FASTag transactions happening nationwide.

FASTag Users Who Face Wrong Deductions Can Complain By

  • Calling 1033

  • Emailing falsededuction@ihmcl.com

Officials will investigate each case and refund the money if the complaint is found to be genuine. The toll operator responsible will also be fined Rs 1 lakh.

A senior IHMCL official confirmed that the main reason for false deductions is wrong manual entry of vehicle numbers by toll operators. To prevent this, NHAI is taking strict action against those responsible.
