The much-anticipated night food market project at the central bus stand of Udiapole in Udaipur, proposed by the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC), has hit another setback. Initially tendered on October 5, 2024, the project aimed to transform the bustling Udiapole area into a vibrant culinary hub for tourists and locals alike.

According to RSRTC officials, the contractor appointed for the project was mandated to complete the market by December, post the state assembly elections. However, despite multiple notices urging commencement of work, the project failed to take off. Consequently, RSRTC's headquarters in Jaipur took the decision to cancel the tender, citing the contractor's lack of initiative.

The proposed night food market was envisioned to occupy an area of 8000 square feet on the right side of the bus stand premises. Its primary objective was to cater to the needs of tourists by providing round-the-clock dining options. Additionally, the project held promising prospects for RSRTC, with anticipated monthly revenue of Rs 3,11,000.

Manager Hemant Sharma elucidated that the contractor had been issued two notices by the headquarters, emphasizing the urgency of starting work. Regrettably, the lack of progress led to the forfeiture of a security deposit of Rs 1 lakh. Expressing disappointment over the situation, Sharma reiterated the corporation's commitment to reviving the project.

RSRTC is poised to reissue the tender for the night food market project. The corporation remains hopeful that this setback will be swiftly overcome, bringing the vision of a vibrant culinary destination at Udiapole to fruition.
