No More 10-Minute Delivery Rule, Says Govt

Government has asked quick-commerce platforms like Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto and Swiggy to end mandatory 10-minute deliveries, improving safety and working conditions for gig workers

Jan 14, 2026 - The mandatory requirement of delivering orders within 10 minutes is soon to end in India bringing relief to delivery personnel. The Government of India has communicated this to delivery service companies asking all quick-commerce platforms to do away with timeline deliveries.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya held discussions with companies including Blinkit, Zomato, Zepto and Swiggy regarding this issue on Tuesday (January 13). Following the meeting, Blinkit announced the removal of the 10-minute delivery feature from all its brand services. The others are also expected to remove this feature soon.

After discussions with the Labour Minister, companies will continue to offer quick delivery services, but the strict 10-minute time limit will no longer be enforced.

This decision was taken after recent protests by gig workers demanding safer working conditions and the removal of the 10-minute delivery mandate. Delivery partners are believed to have been meeting with frequent accidents while rushing to deliver products within the 10-minute window.

Lately, the strict timeline for deliveries came under strict scrutiny particularly following the death of a delivery person in a road accident in Hyderabad. Earlier, the issue was raised in Parliament as well, where concerns were expressed about delivery partners’ safety.

This decision to remove the timeline for deliveries will bring relief to gig workers by improving their working conditions.
