In Rajasthan, owners can now keep their old vehicle numbers when they get a new vehicle. This change is part of a new rule introduced by the government to make things easier for vehicle owners.
According to the transport department's new guidelines, when a vehicle is scrapped at authorized centers, its registration number can be used on a new vehicle.
To use the old number, vehicle owners need to follow a specific process on the vscrap portal. The dealer must confirm that the old and new vehicles are owned by the same person. Necessary documents should be uploaded to the transport department’s portal.
Scrapped vehicles will receive a dummy number on the VAHAN portal to track their history.
The transport department is also updating the Rajasthan Motor Vehicles Rules, 1990, so that the vehicle doesn’t need to be physically present when ownership is transferred. The public has 15 days to provide feedback on these changes before they are finalized.
