Residents of Balicha region are on high alert following multiple sightings of a panther within the Electricity Transmission Corporation premises. The local Forest Department, along with the Electricity Corporation, are taking measures to prevent the panther from entering the area.

The presence of the panther was first noticed on February 19, 2024 and it has since been seen several times, sometimes accompanied by two cubs. The latest evidence came on Wednesday, March 13, 2024,  when panther paw prints were discovered on the corporation's grounds.

In response to the sightings, the Electricity Corporation has installed five sodium lights around the premises. These lights are intended to deter the panther by illuminating the area. Engineer Sandeep Kabra, who works for the corporation, encountered the panther on Monday night after being alerted by a guard. Kabra managed to record a video of the panther, which was promptly sent to the officials for further action.

The Forest Department's team visited the premises on Wednesday and confirmed the presence of panther pugmarks. However, it remains unclear when the pugmarks were made. Following these events, the premises have been cleaned and lit to eliminate potential hiding spots for the panther and to discourage it from returning.
